Where Boiler Operation Engineer is Required ?

 The owner of 

i) A Single boiler or ii) Two or more boilers connected in a battery or iii) Many separate individual boilers situated in a radius of 50 meters having a total heating surface exceeding 1000 sq. meters shall not use the same or permit the same to be used unless the boiler or boilers are placed in direct charge of a certified Boiler Operation Engineer as per the Boiler Operation Engineers’ Rule, 2011.

Eligibility Criteria for Boiler Operation Engineers’ Examination: 

BOE Eligibility Criteria (As per Boiler Operation Engineers’ Rule,2011) 

1. Qualification: Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering/ Electrical Engineering/ Chemical Engineering/ Power Plant Engineering/ Production Engineering/ Instrumentation Engineering 

2. Experience: For Degree holders : 2 years

For Diploma Holders : 5 years 

For Degree/PG Diploma from National Power Training Institute : 1 year 3. 

Age: Not less than 23 years

Syllabus of BOE Examination:

(a) Calculation of load, areas, volume, quantities and weight. (b) Description of different types of boiler and calculation of working pressure of boiler. (c) Calculation of stress. (d) Working management of steam boiler, superheater and economiser. (e) Use and purpose of various valves, cocks, mountings, fittings and safety devices. (f) Description and function of BFP, feed injector, feed regulator, feed watwe filters and softeners, feed heaters, air heaters, clarifiers, accumulators, F.D.Fans, I.D.Fans . Draft system and draft control devices. (g) Combustion system, Overall efficiency of boiler. (h) Condensation, reheating and steam expansion. (i) Foundation of boiler and chimney and height of chimney. (j) Description and principles of strokers, pulverizers, gas. Oil and pulverized fuel systems. (k) Cleaning method of boiler, PH value of water. (l) Detect defects in boiler and remedial measures. (m) Start up of boiler. (n) Economiser. (o) Fuel economy and Instrumentation of boiler. (p) Materials used for construction of boiler and piping. (q) Sketch and drawing of boiler, boiler component and mountings. 

Subjects of BOE Examination: 

Examination shall be conductedin the following manner:- 

(1) Written examination on Boiler Paper I 

(2) Written examination on Boiler Paper II 

(3) Written drawing examination on boiler.

 (4) Oral examination on boiler. 

Assessment of work for BOE examination:

 i) At least 45% marks in each written as well as in oral examination and

 ii) The aggregate should not be less thal 50% of the total marks

Examination fee: Rs.1500
